  • The University’s Title IX Coordinator, in addition to members of the Bias Reporting System, Office of Student Conduct, and Speech and Expression Policy, presented information and resources to all new and transfer students during New Student Orientation.
  • The Office of Title IX Compliance is continuing the new Title IX Ambassador Initiative for its second year!   • The Office of Title IX Compliance continues to promote the new Title IX Ambassador Initiative, which began in Fall 2021. This program will provide undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to positively influence campus climate and culture. Contact the Title IX office to collaborate with the Title IX Ambassadors at titleixideaa@georgetown.edu.
  • The Title IX office releases the Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Website Key Hyperlinks Table, a new resource guide for community members. This table provides an overview of the key links to resources and information from the University’s sexual misconduct website. 
  • The University announced that all first and second-year students are required to complete Bystander Intervention training through an online course, “U Got This!”,  by April 11, 2022. In line with best practices, bystander intervention education is a proven public health strategy for empowering and equipping students to prevent, intervene in and respond to sexual assault.   • In collaboration with key campus partners, including Health Education Services, the Women’s Center, and the Georgetown University Police Department, the Title IX and IDEAA offices have assisted in planning events in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April.   • On June 23, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education released proposed changes to Title IX Regulations and invites public comment.
  • Following the announcement of the Department of Education’s proposed Title IX Regulations, the University hosted a series of listening sessions on July 12, 13, and 14 to hear from the community to help inform the University’s comment. Individuals may share their feedback and comments with the University at https://forms.gle/C5Mn82Yo6nacGuqg9.
  • Community members are able and encouraged to submit comments directly to the Department of Education regarding the new proposed Title IX Regulations through September 12, 2022.

Fall 2021

  • In collaboration with Health Education Services and the Office of Communications, the Title IX office launched a prevention, resource, and response awareness campaign for students and community members returning to campus. Materials are distributed throughout campus to reiterate resources and supports available for survivors and those impacted by sexual misconduct and interpersonal violence.
  • The Office of Title IX Compliance launches the new Title IX Ambassador Initiative, beginning Fall 2021.   • The Gender+ Justice Initiative, Women’s Center, Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Georgetown College, Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (which oversees the Office of Title IX Compliance), and Student Health Services sponsored Sexual Citizens: A Landmark Study of Sex, Power, and Assault on Campus with Jennifer Hirsch and Shamus Khan on September 27.   • In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), the University has compiled a list of virtual events sponsored by local and national organizations, providing opportunities to get involved, learn more, and help raise awareness.
  • The Office of Title IX Compliance is hosting all seven Deputy Title IX Coordinators for the first Deputy Title IX Coordinator Retreat. The Retreat is designed to provide opportunities for the Deputy Title IX Coordinators to get together, discuss processes and procedures, identify common themes and trends, ask questions, and learn from each other. The Retreat also consists of sessions with key campus partners including the Office of Student Outreach and Support (SOS), Office of Student Conduct, Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA), and Office of General Counsel. The Title IX office aims to continue to host this Retreat on a regular basis in the future. 
  • As part of the launch of the Title IX Ambassadors program in the fall 2021 semester, the Women’s Center and student Title IX Ambassadors are hosting an open house where students can meet the staff of the Women’s Center and Office of Title IX Compliance, meet students serving as Title IX Ambassadors, and learn more about opportunities for collaboration and support. The Open House will be held on Wednesday, November 10, from 12:45pm-2:15pm at the Arrupe Hall Multipurpose Room.

The Office of Title IX Compliance invites students to participate in the new Title IX Ambassador Initiative launching Fall 2021. This new program will provide undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to positively influence campus climate and culture. 

On Monday, April 19, from 4-5pm EST, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Georgetown hosted a student-facilitated Title IX, Advocacy, and Support Panel Discussion. This panel included individuals representing the Title IX offices and the confidential counseling and advocacy offices at the University of Michigan, Howard University, and Georgetown. The Office of Title IX Compliance releases a new online training video with a focus on faculty and staff mandatory reporting. This video is designed to provide an overview of mandatory reporting responsibilities, how to support and report, University resources, and formal complaint options.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced that public hearings on the Title IX regulations will be held virtually June 7-11, 2021. Students, educators and others will be able to participate by offering oral comments and written submissions. Georgetown submits a comment to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) during its review of the new Title IX regulations to express concern about the regulations passed last year, which did not address many of the issues raised by Georgetown in an earlier comment to the department in January of 2019.

University News: Georgetown Supports U.S. Department of Education Review of Title IX, Including Accounting for LGBTQ, Intersecting Discrimination

The Office of Title IX Compliance, Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, and Vice President for Student Affairs sent out a broadcast message to the University community to announce the Georgetown’s new sexual misconduct policies and procedures as they relate to the Department of Education’s new Title IX regulations going into effect on August 14, 2020.

The University releases a revised Policy on Sexual Misconduct as a result of the Department of Education’s New Title IX regulations, effective August 14, 2020. Information on specific campus and IDEAA grievance procedures can be found here.

The Sexual Assault and Misconduct Climate Survey Committee comprised of key campus partners continued meeting weekly to discuss the Spring 2019 survey results and next steps, including implications on our training materials for new and incoming students

Working Groups were established to review the new Title IX regulations and determine what changes are necessary

Key campus partners and officials have been briefed on the new Title IX regulations by the Office of Title IX Compliance, in partnership with the Office of General Counsel

On July 6, the Title IX Coordinator, Office of Student Conduct, and two undergraduate students hosted a webinar on the Department of Education’s new Title IX regulations. The webinar included an overview of the new regulations, the University’s draft policies and procedures as they relate to students, and a discussion based on questions submitted in advance of and during the webinar. As a follow up to the webinar on the new Title IX regulations, the Title IX Coordinator and Office of Student Conduct hosted office hours on Thursday, July 9, from 3:30-5pm.

University administrators responded to the Civil Rights petition submitted by students regarding the new Title IX regulations.

The Sexual Assault and Misconduct Climate Survey Committee comprised of key campus partners resumed meeting weekly to discuss the Spring 2019 survey results and next steps

The Title IX Coordinator worked with CMEA staff to add two more individuals as semi-confidential resources within the Center—the Director of the Community Scholars Program and the Program Coordinators are now all semi-confidential

The Title IX Coordinator provided training to graduate students serving as Teaching Assistants

The Title IX Coordinator held Office Hours in Leavey (four sessions are scheduled throughout the spring semester) – postponed due to COVID-19 social distancing guidance  

The Title IX Coordinator and Health Education Services (HES) held sessions with the Black House and Casa Latina residents to discuss Title IX policies and procedures, resources, and strategies for having conversations about sexual misconduct 

The Title IX Coordinator, Director for Student Conduct and Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer held a session for women/femme of color to discuss Title IX and hear feedback in partnership with the Center for Social Justice 

Representatives from IDEAA, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of General Counsel, the Title IX office, and the Office of Federal Relations met with representatives from the Office of Management and Budget and the United States Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights to express Georgetown’s perspectives on the proposed Title IX regulations and reinforce the university’s position statement on this matter

The Title IX office hired a Title IX and Civil Rights Investigator who began in February 2020 

The Title IX Coordinator and HES provided a training to the School of Medicine SAPE students on Title IX policies, procedures, resources and responding to disclosures 

The University received a letter from the Black Survivors Coalition and developed a new website to acknowledge the valuable feedback and information in the letter, share updates and provide information on resources

The Title IX Coordinator and Interpersonal Violence Training and Education Specialist held a training for a staff department

The Title IX Coordinator and members of the Office of General Counsel held a training for staff on Title IX and FERPA 

The Title IX Coordinator and the Director of the Office of Student Conduct met with students in the Title IX for a New Generation course

The Title IX Coordinator and Dean of Students from the Georgetown University Law Center (former Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the Law Center) met with students in the Gender and the Law course

Title IX decals were created so that resources and individuals on campus can clearly identify themselves as confidential, semi-confidential, or non-confidential. Decals are available both in digital version or sticker format 

An updated How to Get Help Guide was released
